This is a parenting email service which I subscribe to. As I receive these emails, I will be posting them on the school blog. This parenting tip comes from the book Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Attitudes, In You and Your Kids, by Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller, RN, BSN. If you’d like to continue to receive tips yourself, you can sign up at www.biblicalparenting.org.
Another Way to Teach Kids Honor
One of the ways that parents can teach honor to children is to include it in the instruction process. You might say, “I’d like you to obey me by setting the table, then I want you to think of something extra to do to surprise me. That’s showing honor. You choose; it’s up to you. Report to me when you’re done and I’ll check your work.”
Surprising parents delights them and focuses on something they want or need. Instructing children to surprise you by doing something extra teaches them to think about your needs and desires not just getting away with the bare minimum. When your child does an extra task, it’s like giving you a gift. Receive the gift with delight. This can be a fun way to teach honor.
Honor involves doing more than what’s expected. All family members need to learn honor and children can learn it when parents teach it. So look for ways to teach kids to do more than what’s expected in daily life. It will not only make family life better now but it will also help kids be more successful as they get older.

Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences will take place this week.
Thursday, Nov. 13: Great So. Cal. Shake Out. We will be participating in the first state wide earthquake drill at 10AM. We have been conducting drills at various time during our day already. Students are being instructed on what to do should be ever have a major earthquake. The most important thing for them to remember is STOP, DROP, and HOLD ON. After that, all they need to do is listen carefully for their teacher’s instructions.
Saturday, Nov. 15: All parents are invited to the Breakfast and Beautification Day. The Worship Center Men’s Ministry will be serving breakfast at 8AM, after which we will work together to spruce the place up a bit. There will be a list of odd jobs posted on the church window. Of course, we would love to see lots of parents there. Kids are welcome too! Give the school a call if you plan to be here for breakfast so we can be sure to have enough food for everyone.

Busy week….
Rubio’s night was great! Great food and Rubio’s donated $137.00 back to the school! It was fun seeing kids and parents out side of the school setting.
Math-a-thon was fun. All students completed their Fun Books in class. Math-a-thon donor-students met in the courtyard for little break and a fun snack. Students should bring their pledges in on Monday. The sooner we get all the pledges in the sooner we can send a check to St. Jude’s and order prizes.
Because of the participation in our $1 Dress Day on Friday, we were able to sponsor a pastor to attend the anual pastors retreat in Baja Mexico. Thanks!!
