Haitian Orphange Needs Our Help!

January 18, 2010

I’m sure most of you remember Juli Kumpf.  She is the daughter of Mrs. Kumpf and a former student AND employee of CHCS.  She is currently finishing her degree and working as a student teacher in the San Diego area.  She called me this weekend with an urgent plea for help for one of her co-workers who has been devastated by the recent earthquake in Haiti.  I am asking you to do 3 things:

  1. Read the following letter sent to me by Juli.  You can read more about this ministry by visiting www.reachouttohaiti.com.
  2. Send a tax deductible donation to the school this week. Send cash or checks made out to CHCS. We will forward it immediately to Reach Out To Haiti.
  3. Allow your children to participate in Dollar Dress Day this Friday.  Bring a dollar – Wear free dress.  All money raised on Friday will also be donated to help this family  reunite and be brought to safety.

Dear College Heights,

I currently work at Ocean Beach Elementary with my friend Juana Petry. Juana’s mother Veera lives in Haiti, along with five of her siblings. Veera owns an orphanage outside of Port-au-Prince, which is located where the earthquake hit. Veera moved to Haiti to dedicate her life to helping these orphaned children find loving families.  A week before the earthquake, Veera came back to the United States to make sure her children had American Citizenship. Praise the Lord that she did! Coming back to Haiti the day before, Veera took one of the orphans to the hospital minutes before the earthquake hit. Sadly, the child didn’t make it and all she could do was rush home to make sure everyone else was safe. All of the orphans were fine except “Boyfriend,” a two and a half year old whom she had recently adopted. Fortunately, her four children still remain there: Teddy(10), Manman(8), Tamarah(4), and Erna(2).

Right now, the staff at Ocean Beach Elementary are speedily working to raise money to help bring them back to the United States so that they can receive medical care and not be exposed to the lack of food, water, supplies, and protection. In the meantime Veera will remain in Haiti in order to protect the orphans. Any donations or prayers will help immensely! The money will be used to help bring Juana’s siblings here. Additionally, it will go towards building immediate and necessary shelter for the Haitian children and ultimately to the rebuilding of the now destroyed orphanage. Please pray for God’s provision in the wake of this tragedy. Specifically, pray that the Haitian people will get the clean water and food that they so desperately need.

Sincerely,

Juli Kumpf (Miss. Juli)

More Than a Table Full of “Stuff”

December 10, 2009

Hearts in MexicoIt may look like a mess,  but these tables are piled high with love and lots of wonderful items donated by the families of CHCS.  Socks and gloves, soap and shampoo, toys and jewelry, towels and school supplies, and much more!  Everything got packed up today and will be on it’s way to our pastor-partners in Mexico and their familes who work tirelessly for the Kingdom of God.  Thanks, Hearts in Mexico, for allowing us to be involved in this wonderful project!  Great job, students and parents!

Reading, wRiting, aRithmetic, and Real-life!

You know, great education is more than reading, writing, and arithmetic.  It’s about learning to live real life, to achieve great things and to excel in God-directed undertakings.

christmas cardLast week Mrs. Bangs told us about a 5 year old boy in Michigan who was living the final days of his life due to cancer.  One of his dearest wishes was that he would receive lots of Christmas cards this year.  So at CHCS the teachers gave each student the opportunity to make a card for Noah which will be sent to him this weekend.  But one of our students, Meagan, picked up the baton and ran a bit further with it.  She went home and contacted the Post Office to find out how large of a letter she would be able to mail across the country.  After getting the information, she created a HUGE Christmas card for Noah, and then brought the signature page to school so that each student from College Heights could sign it.  She will be mailing it separately, with her own money, on her own time!

Thanks, Mrs. Bangs, for alerting us to this opportunity to express love to a sick little boy.  Thanks, students and teachers, for responding to the call!  And, WAY TO GO, Meagan, for taking our efforts to the next level!  (Raising a Generation to do Greater Things!)  It’s exciting to be a part of a school that not only excels academically, but seizes opportunities to express the character of our Loving Father to a needy world.  God Bless You, little Noah.  We are praying for you and your family!

This is what real Christianity is all about!  As 1 Peter 1:22 says, “love one another deeply, from the heart”!
