Eating With Eagles

deltacodebbyDel Taco Night was great!  Not only did we make $200, but it was wonderful just hanging out together!  It was like a party that we didn’t have to clean up after!

Our next Eating with Eagles will be at the Carl’s Jr. on Victoria in Ventura on Nov. 12th.  The event lasts all day and we make 20%.  We will be sending home fliers for you to use and plenty of extras available in the office to pass out to everyone you know!  Don’t forget to purchase Carl’s Jr. SCRIP for double benefits.

Visual Arts

art class2Mrs. Cooper has had our students busy with some fantastic visual art projects.  If you get a chance to stop by the courtyard you will find mosaics of all sorts, prayer flags, and colorful  hand prints on the pillars!  Now it’s time to turn our attention to the performing arts as we prepare for the Christmas program.

Math-a-thon Starts Today!

October 19, 2009

Today in Chapel we kicked off our annual Math-a-thon community service activity for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Students were given permission slips for parents to sign and bring back by this Friday.  The “Fun Books” have been ordered and we should received them this week as well.  As soon as we do, the students will:

  • Take pledge envelopes home and get as many sponsors as they can.
  • Participate in the All School Mathathon Event.
  • Collect pledges and return them to school.

After that, prizes will be ordered and the money will be sent to St. Jude’s.  We consider it a priveldge to participate in an event that helps us think about others who are struggling with difficult illnesses and helps fund research and treatment for these illnesses.  Please encourage your children to participate. If you would like to learn more about the St. Judes’s Math-a-thon, please go to www.mathathon.org.

Thank-you!

School/Church Community Beautification Day

September 30, 2009

October 17th, 8:00-Noon

I hope lots of you are planning on coming out for our Beautification Day!  It’s going to be fun and productive.  First, we will meet for coffee and snacks at 8:00 AM.  At 8:15, we will be conducting a “New Heights: Approach” mini-tour for anyone who hasn’t attended a tour yet.  We are doing this to give all parents and church members a chance to see what the New Heights program is all about.   The mini-tour will be about 20 minutes, and then we can get to work!  We will have lists posted on the church windows for workers to pick their projects.  There are gardening projects, carpentry and wood work, seasonal cleaning, etc.

Best of all, it’s a time for us to be together and get to know one another better!  Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Final Note:  Starting tomorrow, I (Mrs. Alderson) will be gone for a few (9) days.  I will be leaving the office in the capable hands of Mrs. Blomquist, Mrs. Wooff and Mrs. Annette, with support and backup from Pastor David.  So, no more blogging for a while.   I will keep you all in prayer while I’m gone and ask that you do the same for me.  See you soon!

Eating with Eagles

September 23, 2009

Thanks everyone, for coming out to our first “Eating with Eagles” night at Chuck E. Cheese’s.  Looks like everyone had a fun time, and it was great to spend a little recreational time with you all.  We’ll keep you posted as we get notification from the restaurants about how much was credited back to the school.

The question has been asked, “Why Thursday?  Why not a weekend night?”  Good question, and I know that it would be a little less stressful, but the restaurants we have been in contact with so far do not offer the fundraising option on weekend nights.  So for now, it’s every other Thursday.  We will try to keep the homework down on Eating With Eagles nights.

The next event is on Thursday, October 1st, at Rubios, in the Ralph’s shopping center on Victoria.  Flyers will be coming home on Friday.  If you want extra flyers to give to friends and family, just let us know, we can get you more.  Customers who mention CHCS when they order will be helping the school.

Art, Camp, and Fund-raising

September 16, 2009

Art: Our new art classes have begun!   Mrs. Cooper is helping the students with some wonderful projects.  It’s fun and exciting to watch!

Camp: Middle School “Camp Whatever” was a great success, despite the wind and the dirt.  We got to know one another better, learned more about our awesome God, and had  a lot of  fun too!  It was a nice start to what I think is going to be a fantastic year!  Thanks to Grandma Betty for preparing all of our food, Mr.  Fitts and Mr. Alderson for overnight chaperoning, Pastors Bobby and Kirk for their words of wisdom, Mrs. Bang for leading us in worship, and the amazing Middle School staff for their 24/7 supervision, activity preparation and TLC.  Thanks parents for allowing your kids to learn from this awesome experience outside of their confort zones.

Fund-raising: Please keep encouraging your children to present the Abundant Funds merchandise catalog to friends and family.  There are lots of cool items that people can kick start their Christmas shopping with! And the kids can win some very nice prizes while helping the school.
